Q: Should I buy a 2008 Ford Escape or a 2007 Honda CRV?
I am about the purhase a 2007 Honda CRV, but I can get a bit more for my money in the 2008 Ford Escape. Let me know which is the best choice and for resale.
A: unless unexpected tow truck and repair bills don’t bother you, get the Honda. not too long ago my mechanic pretty much became unglued telling me about all the problems his customers with American cars come in with and how their design makes repairs much more complicated and expensive than they need to be. and he’s domestic built himself if you know what I mean.
Q: I’m wandering about two different vehicles the Ford Escape and the Nissan Xterra?
I live in Penn I’m thinking about buying a smaller suv I’m interested in either the ford escape or the nissan xterra I want a V6 and 4WD and I’m wandering about gas mileage also if there is any problems with either vehicle Please give me some feedback on either vehicle
A: The Xterra sucks way more gas and has more of a truck ride than the Escape.
If you are going to do zero off-roading, then the Escape is the less expensive, and more practical, choice.
I would also consider the Hyundai Santa Fe and the new 2011 Kia Sorento.
Don’t touch any Sorento 2009 or before. It’s a totally different vehicle.
Q: Any opinions or reviews on 2001 Ford Escape?
I’m planning on purchasing a 2001 Ford Escape XLS. It has a V6 engine, 2wd, about 116,000 miles, originally bought from the dealer and serviced there as well… I’m basically in LOVE with this car, and she’s selling it to me for about $4000. Is it possible for anyone to put down a review of this car? Whether you’ve owned previously, or currently, anything helps. Thanks
(please include all malfunctions or problems you’ve had with the car)
A: These are basically good dependable vehicles, the mileage is low average for a TEN year old car.
If engine and transmission work fine, then it’s worth considering.. But , I’d only pay $4000, if it has near new tires all around, brake service recently done, and no body damage or rust,or rust, or rust.
Other things that could go wrong on a ten year old car are fairly simple to repair or replace, and essentially are maintenance- such as battery, exhaust system, suspension components, radiator, etc. these seldom ,if ever go all at once,
Good luck
Q: how would a ford escape hybrid 4×4 handle in the mountains here in California all seasons?
i was thinking of getting a ford escape hybrid 4×4, but idk anything about them, and i want a car that can take me from the beach to the snow covered mountains…
A: 100% agree with emiller. Just remember AWD IS IN NO WAY 4X4!!!!!!!! I have seen so many dummys on the beach think it is the same thing. If your thinking of doing anything more serious than driving on slick pavement, then you are definitely going to need 4×4 with 4High and 4Low. The 4Auto or AWD system never works as good as a salesman WILL lead you to believe… Trust me.
Q: where is the aux input in the 06 mercury mariner/ford escape?
i’m looking into buying a mercury mariner/ford escape (same car from same co.) and i saw the aux button on the stereo but where is the aux input in the car so i can plug in my ipod?
A: It may be in the glovebox, but it is most likely on the back of the stereo. (You will have to yank out your radio to find this/set it up) If it is it will just be the typical RCA inputs (Red and white stereo jacks) so if your looking to hook up an iPod you will need a 1/8 inch (head phone jack) to RCA cable, that you can plug into the back of your stereo and feed out to where it is easily accessible to you.
Q: My 2001 Ford Escape will not start after running in hot weather Why?
When only in hot weather my escape will not start I have to let the engine cool to get it started. As soon as warm weather come I cannot run a lot of errands because it starts fine the first and second time after that it just will not start I have to put my foot on the gas and break then slam it in drive and to some luck it will go. I have had it in several garages and they have replaces this and that and its still doing it. Please help!
A: check the control module and take it ford there may be a recall to correct this problem its not normal sounds like you ve been to to many parts chasers not a good mechanic good luck
Q: Anyone know where I can get a spoiler for a 2005 Ford Escape Limited in Gold Ash Metallic? Also, how much? ty
Anyone know where I can get a spoiler for a 2005 Ford Escape Limited in Gold Ash Metallic? I’ve seen a couple pictures online but they aren’t as detailed and I haven’t seen around my way. I don’t know much about these things and I’m trying to learn so I’m looking for some tips as to where I can get them from and at a reasonable price. Thanks in advance.
A: Junk yard or salvage yard. They usually let you look around and negotiate the price. Take a guy with you for safety.
Q: Source of Noise in Rear End Ford Escape 4×4?
One month old 2009 Ford Escape 4×4. Noise in rear end “hoot” or “tooot” sound upon accelerating from dead stop. Dealer cannot find source of problem but noted that two other 2009 Escapes with 4×4 on the lot exibit same noise. Suspect rear axle. No service bulletins out there yet. Anyone else have similar experience? If so what have you learned?
A: Did it quit? Then it isn’t a problem. If two others exhibited the same problem, you can pretty much guarantee that all of them will do it. And Ford will consider it a normal characteristic of the vehicle line and offer no repair is necessary for us technicians, and that vehicle durability is not affected. Honestly, that is almost word for word what we will see on the tech website. If they can’t find it, and there are no messages on it and other vehicles do it, not much the dealer is going to do to solve it. Keep driving. When they have an answer, we will let you know.
EDIT: I guess other posters stop reading at the end of the first sentence? Let me rephrase the last bit then, so some, especially those that post just to call names and not actually answer anything, can understand. It is a new model vehicle and there will not be any service messages until the vehicle has been on the market for a while. This will give us technicians and Ford time to find the source of the noise and if the noise is across the model line, there will be a message. Keep driving. When they have an answer, we will let you know.
Q: What would cause coils to go bad in a 01 ford Escape?
I have replaced every coil in my Escape and yet again another one has blown out? Any one have an idea of what would cause the coils to go bad like this?
A: The coils go out mostly because of two reasons. 1) Heat…
2) high resistance in the secondary ignition. e.g. worn spark plugs, coil boots and springs and lean running engine.
Ford COP (coil on plug) coils do fail frequently so it isn’t unusual to have to replace one or more in a year.
Q: Looking for WORTHWHILE 2006 Ford Escape suspension upgrade recommendations?
Hi,
A few times a week I carry car loads in the ~1,000-1,200 pound range.
Now there’s a road construction project going on near me and it’s sceduled to last for 2-3 years. I now find my Escape bouncing quite a bit as I encounter new construction related bumps and stuff. I’m worried that my suspension is now taking a beating and that the extra wear might end up causing me additional car related problems down the road. I’m wondering if I should consider some sort of suspension upgrade or simply replace original stuff more frequently.
FYI: I don’t know anything about car and suspensions so I’m not sure how to approach the issue intellegently?
Anyone have some WORTHWHILE comments, tips, suggestions?
FYI: I’m not looking to make a monster truck or to invest multiple thousands of dollars and I do realize that simply slowing down can help the situation for free.
Thanks to those who choose to help.
A: Hmmm… it seems u have spend alot of time thinking about this. well, let me but it simple: suspension “upgrade” is an upgrade and most upgrades help the cause. go ahead and do it but make sure you do it right. If u dont know how to do it right, get professional help. but start the process when u are sure about every step u have to do to get it done right, Good Luck
Q: How do I tighten Ford Escape manual trans linkage?
This is a 4 cyl. 5-speed ‘01 Escape with about 130k miles on it. It runs great, but the shifter linkage has gotten mighty sloppy. Is this easily repaired? Could I do it myself? I haven’t had a look at it yet — thought I’d check here first.
A: You may have to have a set of Rhino ramps and safety jack stands to be able to work under the car. But have a friend run through the gears while the car’s parked and the hood is open so you can see the shift linkages move. At every connection point there should be nylon bushings that wear out and need replacing. You might need to remove a cotter pin to remove a bushing.

Q: Is it more likely that the other car to be totaled in a collision with the ford escape?
I own a Ford Escape 2006 and I was wondering if they were built tough to support a collision. Is the ford escape one of those type of vehicles that is easy to smash because it is made mostly of plastic. Some people are telling me that the older vehicles are better because they are made mostly of metal
A: You also use the term, “totaled.” Insurance companies may consider a car totaled when they think the repairs required to bring the car back to “like new” condition are not worth the cost. In some cases, a car labled as totaled can be repaired and have a useful life.
For example: If a Mini Cooper ran into your left, front corner at, say 30 mph. Very likely the Mini would be totaled, with severe damage to the front suspension, radiator, electonics, cooling systems, engine, framework, etc. Meanwhile, your Explorer may have lost it’s front axle, differential (transfer box), exhaust manifold and a few pieces of sheet metal and plastic. Depending on how old your car is, the insurance company may consider it totaled, and offer you a limited amount to buy it baack from you. There may be a competent mechanic, with a well equipped shop or an enthusiastic hobbiest who could “fix” the car and drive it around just fine for many years. The car might not be pretty, but it’s still a car.
Q: How much does it cost to replace a computer on a 2002 ford escape?
I have replaced my coils, plugs, plug wires…I’ve replaced it all….but my 2002 escape is still “missing” or sputtering – especially in times when it is wet. (rain, melting snow, HIGH humidity) so I was told I might need to replace my computer. Anyone know how much a dealership (roughly) charges for this?
A: you might want to check your distribator cap might be cracked and when is is damp outside will cause this problem
Q: How difficult is it to repair a wheel bearing on a 2003 Ford Escape?
My daughter needs to have a wheel bearing repared on her Escape and they want to do the work themselves. Does this vehicle have wheel bearings that have to be pressed in by a special machine or is it something that they can do themselves?
A: i would not recommened doing this yourself unless youve done it before you need alot of special tools and the bearings do have to pressed in.
Q: 2008 Ford Escape noises from air conditioner?
I just bought a new 2008 Ford Escape, and whenever the air conditioner is on it makes a gurgling noise. It only gurgles when in idle, or going slow speeds. Does anyone know what could be causing this? I’d like to have an idea to go to the dealership with since they seem to be idiots and will probably tell me nothings wrong. Thanks
A: Low coolant level is the most common.
Air in the cooling system.
Check your coolant level……..
