Q: Is there anyway to do a diagnostics check on a 1988 honda accord,my check engine light is on.?
Is there anyway to do a diagnostics check on a 1988 honda accord lx? My check engine light is on but the car seems to be running o.k.

A: You will need to go to a reputable mechanic with the proper tools to do a diagnostic scan. WIth the multiple sensors and systems on engines today, that is the only way you are going to be able to find out what the problem is.

Q: What upgrades should I get for my 2003 honda accord lx?
I have a 2003 Honda Accord LX model and I want to do some more to it. I’m tinting the windows this summer but what else is a good idea to do?

A: Just tint it, maybe some different wheels if you want, maybe a system. Don’t do anything performance wise. Those year of Accords are not fast cars, it would be a waste of money. Just fix it up a little to make it look nicer and enjoy the sound system.

Q: how do you adjust the handbrake on a honda accord 06 model?
i have replaced the front and rear brakepads on a friends honda accord. the problem is that after i’d finished, i took it on a test drive and there was alot of travel on both the brake pedal and the handbrake. i need to know if it is a self adjusting system or manual system?

A: The disc brakes on this car are self adjusting, all you normally have to do is repeatedly pump the brake pedal until all the clearance is taken up.

I’m surprised you have had to change the pads already on an ‘06 model unless its got a pretty high mileage.

Q: Can I Use Synthetic Oil to My 2002 Honda Accord?
My 2002 Honda Accord recommends that I use 5W-20 regular oil. If I use synthetic oil, is it gonna improve performances? If yes, what performances? Is it gonna kill some other parts in the engine or cause oil leaking after switching from regular?

A: If you do that i think this an upgrade, so keep it like this for ever and don’t try to down grade.

Q: How much for a new front bumper and service on a honda accord 2005?
Around how much would a bumper for a white honda accord 2005
and i heard what area you live in counts for the cost to
so i live around pittsburgh
and how much would it be for them to put it on also?
thanks.

A: why do you need a bumper? Most body shops can repair tears and damage to the bumpers rather than replace them. Your dealer probably has a company that they use to repair the bumpers on their used cars; as them for an estimate if the bumper is scraped or torn. Its amazing what can be repaired.

to replace it you’ll be looking at about $500. The new bumper cover comes in gray and has to be painted before it can be installed. so for the part, paint and installation it will run about 5x the cost to repair the old one.

if the car has been in an accident you may find that the bumper bar and absorbers are also damaged. those will add to the cost of replacement.

hope that helps

Q: What is causing a whistle sound in a brand new 2008 Honda Accord Sedan?
I just purchased today a new 2008 Honda Accord LXP Sedan Manual Transmition with only 29 miles and I am noticing a whistle sound whenever accelerating or I push the gas pedal. I also notice the whistle sound whenever I turn the Steering wheels either right or left. Is this normal for a new car or a break in period. Your help is greatly appreciated.

A: Probably just the power steering pump breaking in.

Check with the dealer, i’m sure its nothing.

Q: 4 cylinder or a v6 engine for a honda accord if i want to upgrade for speed?
Ok i want speed. But i want to mod it for more speed and in the long run which could be faster the 4 cyl or v6?
Im thinking of a honda accord 4-Cyl. 2.4L VTEC.
Or a honda accord v6 3.0.

Which could be faster?

A: It all depends on how you have your vehicle set up. Honda’s are generally high reeving engines which means larger pistons shorter stroke. However on their V6 is more increase of torque due to the increase in weight of the vehicles. Besides the engine size does not matter when it comes to speed, is more or less how you translate the power the engine gives you into motion. Gearing will give you greater speed. Also you need to remember that you can’t have a quick car and expect it to be an every day driver. As you cannot expect a fast car to be quick on take offs. If you want to drag the bigger the engine the better, if you actually want a performance machine that can be an everyday driver, a racer, and will not hurt you on the pocket the smaller engine is better.

Q: What engine does a 1987 Honda Accord Lx use?
What engin does a 1987 Honda Accord Lx use? And what other engines can fit in it? this was my first car and i would like to fix it up and get it running good and fast. please help. what about the k series stuff? i mean the k20/k24 set up? would that fit?
well thing is i already have another car. a 2006 mitsubishi lancer es. i just want to fix up my honda and drive it cus it is a standard and that way my girl can drive my lancer that way we both have running car’s

A: the Accord uses an A20. If you’re trying to swap another motor in there you might as well forget about it. There was a company that used to make motor mounts for the 3rd gen Accord, but they either closed up shop or just don’t make them anymore.
I used to have an 1986 Accord. There’s a website for you to look at:
www.3geez.com
It’s for the 3rd generation accords like yours. On there you’ll find peple who have been able to swap the B18 and others in to there Accords. Keep in mind, it’s not easy.
You might want to just save up for a CRX or a Civic. There are more parts and options open for those cars.

Q: How many front axles for a 1988 Honda Accord AT?
Hi, trying to replace the axles on my girlfriend’s 1988 Honda Accord. Front axle clicking badly on turns. Kragen-Oreilly auto parts store has told me we might only need 1 axle, so I’d like to clarify before purchasing. Also, are there any experienced Honda mechanics out there that can rate this 1-5 difficulty for a DIY project?

A: there are 2 half axles for your 88 accord. But if the clicking is only on one side you only need to replace that half axle. Its a real easy job
You jack the car up and put it on stands
take the wheel off
remove the cotter pin on the axle/castle nut
break the castle nut in the very center
then you have to unbolt a wish bone looking thing to get the axle out
on the tranny side, just pull on it, its held in place by a clip
then put the new axle in
reverse the dismantling process
I’d say its about a 2 if 5 was swapping and engine and 1 is rotating tires/changing oil
Just read up in the internet
theres this one guy on youtube “ErictheCarGuy” that did work on an accord that is a gen later than yours, but the theory is pretty much the same.

Q: How do I get the best acceleration in a 4 speed automatic Honda accord?
I have a 2000 Honda Accord 3.0 Liter V6. 4 speed automatic. I know I can just put it in D4 and drive but for better acceleration should I use 1, 2, and D3 also? Whats the best way to accelerate quickly? (for what speeds should I use each gear?) Thanks!!!

A: its best to just floor it…using the 1,2, and d3 would allow you to take it to a higher rev but i wouldnt recommend it for quicker acceleration…its mainly used for towing or going up and down steep hills…but i still wouldnt use it much..especially since yours is the v6…i say that because those year models had major issues with the tranny breaking down….

Q: How many quarts of transmission fluid do I put in my 95 Honda Accord?
How many quarts of transmission fluid do I put in my 95 Honda Accord if it was fully flushed?

A: A Honda transmission should never be flushed. It’s better to change the fluid twice than do a flush.

If it’s a manual it requires a little more than 2 quarts so buy 3 quarts of fluid.
Automatic may take around 4-5 quarts, I helped my cousin replace the fluid in his 97 Accord (Same generation as 95 Accord) and it took a little less than 5 quarts – but we didn’t flush it…

Please use Honda Transmission fluid ONLY. And check the dip-stick to make sure the fluid level is correct, don’t just assume it needs a certain amount then drive away.

If it’s a manual tranny remove the Filler Bolt and put the car on level ground then begin filling the transmission, once a small amount of fluid is pouring out of the filler bolt hole stop and put the bolt back in.

Q: How do you replace wheel bearing for the front right on a honda accord ?
How do you replace a right front wheel bearing on a 1995 honda accord ex

A: i own a repair shop, and those are pressed in,you have to remove the spindle and have the old ones pressed out,and the new ones pressed in,good luck,i hope this help,s.

Q: How much would it cost to fix power windows on a 2000 Honda Accord?
my front windows in my 2000 Honda Accord no longer work, and it’s a real pain in the butt when it’s late a night and I want to go to a drive through and either can’t, or have to deal with embarrassment of opening my door to get everything. So I’m thinking about getting it fixed…any idea how much it may cost?

A: that’s going to depend on whats wrong with it,it could be the motor bad or the switch bad on it,you first need to get it diagnosed then see what they say it needs,it can cost anywhere from 50 bucks all the way up to 200 to get one working again, good luck.

Q: Is there a better automatic transmission i can use in my 2000 Honda Accord?
I have a 2000 Honda Accord, 4cyd ULEV Vtec, automatic… Im doing a few upgrades in a month, but i dont want the new speed to eat up my transmission. Is there a better transmission i can use, that will fit and where can i get it? Please help me out.

A: Instead of wasting money trying to make an ultra-low emissions family sedan faster, which will just make you look like a follower and still be slow to boot, why don’t you spend that money on a car that’s already fast to begin with? V8 RWD is the best starting point, but there’s other choices too…Turbo 4s work as well.

Q: What type of manual transmission should I be using in my Honda Accord?
I want to change the fluids in my 1997 Honda Accord. It’s a five speed and I’d rather not spend the extra $$$ on Honda MTF. I would like to use a full synthetic if at all possible. Any Ideas???

A: Go with Honda MTF. Synthetic doesnt allow the friction for the synchros to work in the way they’re designed to work.
