Q: I’m looking to buy a Jeep Wrangler 4 cyl, 5spd,1990-1997. What should I check mechanically when I am looking?
I am looking to buy a used Jeep Wrangler. I owned a 1995 Jeep Wrangler from 1995-2003. I already know some common problems that Jeeps have i.e. rust, leaking slave cylinders, clutch issues. I’m a girl and don’t want to get ripped off when I am looking around. Any tips on what else to look for when I go check out vehicles. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.
A: Transmission, transfer case and differentials. Also check for leaks in engine seals and ask for maintenance records. Check the U-joints, brakes and cables. Body damage is awesome so let it go. That is unless its in the floor then it sucks. I would avoid any jeep with the Peugeot BA/ 10 Transmission as they are pretty crappy and found in most wranglers pre-1993 The 4 cyl had the AX-5 Transmission until 2003 (also a shit box but better than the peugeot) and all 6 cyls had the AX-15 until about 2002 when they went to the NV3550. The AX-15 is a good gear box.
Q: 89 used jeep wrangler?
Right now I’m looking at this jeep wrangler its a 89 and its got 111,000 miles on it. automatic, 4.2 straight 6. Runs good for $2500
Would it be better to get a newer jeep? I have herd that the older are easier to fix, any information please help! Had two Grand Cherokees, I am sick of those.
should I try to get the price lower or is this a good price?
A: If I were buying a YJ (square headlights) Wrangler, I’d look for a ‘91 or newer. The engines are fuel injected not carbeurated, which makes them more dependable. I find the fuel injected ones easier to fix, as well, but then I never did get along with carbs too well. Other than that, if you can get the price on that one down a couple of hundred dollars, it may be worth it.
Q: Can anyone please tell me what type of Mercedes transmission is used in the Jeep Wrangler?
I want to install an antomatic transmission controller, preferably with paddle shift, and would be grateful for any help or advice
A: The Mercedes NSG 370 six-speed manual was in Wranglers
The Mercedes W5A580 automatic is used with the 3.7-liter V-6 Grand Cherokee.
Q: Used 2007+ Jeep Wrangler Unlimited for $17000 or less?
Looking for Jeep wrangler Unlimited 4Dr. 4×4 Auto trans for 17k or less witch has been quite a task for myself.. I’ve been looking for weeks.. Autotrader, Craigslist and many other used auto sites.. any suggestions or help?!?
A: Good luck?
I can find plenty of Wranglers in Houston that are a couple of years (or more) older than that that seem to still command that kind of asking price.
Q: Will I still be able to get a used ’80s Jeep Wrangler down the road?
I really would like one of those 80’s Jeep’s to drive around in.
Will I still be able to get one down the road?
(I do not want a new one, I drive around the city a lot, so this vehicle is going to take some abuse from door dings and other damages, even though I am horribly crazy about keeping my cars pristine)
A: You could probably find one, but im not sure how long down the road until you wont. Even the Grand Cherokee’s from 93-98 are getting harder to find i noticed as the years progress.
Q: Does anyone know where i can get a jeep wrangler ,used runs good and for $1000?
please im off to college and in desperate need of a wrangler
A: well. aside the mention of eBay, nobody here has given you a real answer.
I would look around Craigslist in your area. www.craigslist.org
Believe it or not, there are people who desperately need to get rid of their jeeps. It won’t be in phenomenal condition, and you’ll most likely spend more money repairing it than you spent to purchase, but that’s the place to look.
Q: I am buying a used jeep wrangler unlimited 4 door. Should I buy one with a hard top or soft top?
Whichever one I buy, I plan to buy the other type of top and install it so that I have both available. Which is harder and more expensive to do after the fact? I have availability of both hard and soft tops that I’m considering but I’d like to keep in mind the “hassle factor” post-purchase of which one is harder to deal with, if any. Thanks.
I’m looking at used 2007/2008 models, 4 door, wrangler sahara unlimited. Thanks.
A: I have a 2010 Unlimited with dual top option, which gives you both choices from the start.
Some people do have problems with the hard tops leaking, but not all. My hard top has never leaked and when I have it on I’m constantly removing and reinstalling the front freedom panels any day its above 50* and not raining. Furthermore, I know three other people in my area with hard tops and none of them have had problems with leaks either.
If you don’t have the choice of buying a Jeep with the dual-top option, then starting with the hard top (if you need it) would make the most sense. Buying a new hard top costs over $2,300, though you can frequently find used hardtops for sale on sites like http://www.JKOwners.com and http://www.JK-Forum.com for half or less. Conversely, a new OEM soft top costs around $1,500 and there are third-party alternatives as low as $700. Again, used soft-tops are available on the above websites for 70% or less the of the new costs (and are much cheaper to ship).
Neither is particularly difficult to install after the fact. Removing and installing the hard top requires two people to lift it into place or a hoist (which can be bought or made) and dealing with eight Torx T50 screws. Installing the soft top requires installing plastic door surrounds with knobbed screws and screwing the crossbow bracket into the roll cage.
Q: Can hard top doors be used on a 1993 jeep wrangler with a soft top?
I would really much rather have doors with glass windows. Will hard top doors work, or is there anyway to put glass windows on it?
A: The YJ (1987 thru 1995 Wranglers) have different doors. The upper rear corner on the soft top is square, it’s round on the full doors. You have a couple of options here. You could get the soft door tops with the glass sliders, like somebody else mentioned. You could get the full doors from the hard top and buy a Bestop Supertop, which is designed to work with the full doors.
Good luck
Q: what is the name for this part of a “92 jeep wrangler?
I just got a used jeep wrangler, and the back right piece of the body is dented in, but i dont know the name for this part, its the part that is directly to the right side of the tail light and above the back bumper, thanks.
A: rear quarter panel
Q: finding a used jeep wrangler?
locating to see in person,,?
A: craiglist, auto trader, used car dealerships, classified ads. i got my 91 jeep wrangler from a used car dealership.
Q: Should I buy a used jeep wrangler or hair?
Yeah…that. LoL all you want. I’m just tired of looking like a 40 y.o. man dressing in DC and baggy pants. I hate this weak a$$ hairline. -_- I started shaving about 1yr ago and don’t think much of it. I just wonder if maybe I would get more attention from girls if I had a normal head of hair. Well thats the main reason I want to “buy” hair.(transplant) The reason I want a jeep is just to get away and go kayaking…by myself. And snowboarding, by myself.
A: Seriously, keep shaving your head and buy the Jeep. You will save on shampoo and have a hell of a time in the Jeep. You’ll be more aerodynamic too when you have the top off and that will save you gas
Not to mention you can just squeegee the mud off your head! And dont forget all the girls that love “Jeep Guys” I just bought my first Jeep, a 1998 Wrangler and I am looking forward to seeing what she can do. That might be the answer because if you buy your hair and it does not work out, you cant sell it on craigslist! LOL My honest advise as a 41 yo guy in the same general boat, I would say forget the vanity and just have fun. When you do that you will be yourself and that will attract alot of girls. Good luck and happy Jeeping!
Q: I am 15 and i want to buy a used jeep wrangler when i’m 16. I can afford the car, i just dont know about gas?
I’ve been checking out used jeeps on kijiji and sites like that, i’ve found some nice ones for about 10,000 dollars and i my dad and i would be able to afford that. But the thing is i want to know more about jeeps… how do they drive around the city and on highways? How is the gas mileage and would gas be affordable enough? I know a few people with jeeps around my age and they seem fine with it.. but i just don’t know if its a car for a 16 year old.. and if it isnt what is? I want a truck or an suv
A: MPG can’t be part of your decision matrix when considering a Jeep. They are not designed to be fuel-efficient. Don’t make the mistake of getting the 4-cylinder to save on gas — you will regret it.
They are noisy and rough on the street. But most Jeep owner’s could care less. Take off the top and the doors (remember to put on mirrors, though, or get a ticket) and head off-road, or even just down to the beach/lake and enjoy the sun.
Jeep owners are a different breed of car enthusiasts. Now, with the 4-door Wrangler Unlimited, there’s more soccer mom’s driving Jeeps than ever before. Yes, a Jeep can be a Mall Crawler, and you can still be a happy Jeep owner. But they were really designed to be taken off-road.
If you want a more comfortable and refined vehicle that still has some off-road capabilities, but much better highway manners, consider a Nissan Pathfinder or xTerra, or a Toyota 4Runner, which you can probably find in your price range.
Q: How can I get used Army Wrangler jeep in Iraq?
I need cheap Jeep
A: Dredge the river Euphrates !
Q: I am planning to buy a used 2008 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sahara. What do you think of yours?
My wife and I are considering the purchase of a used 2008 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sahara. We have 3 young kids with another SUV and a sedan. This would be a “fun” purchase. This would be my vehicle to drive to/from work (mostly surface streets, 25 minutes each way) and mine to use when I go mountain biking. I don’t tend to have more than 2 kids in the car per trip but it would be nice to fit all 3 car seats in the back if we really needed to.
The one I’m looking at is a hard top. Manual transmission. 22,000 miles or so, about $27,500 in price, one of those certified dealer warranties at 6 years/80k miles.
I’ve never owned a jeep. Looking for feedback about reliability, what people think of theirs, etc.
Thanks.
A: You should also consider that such a car may be expensive to insure. Check your insurance rates before buying one, for example here – carinsurance.yoll.net
Q: are jeep wrangler or wrangler unlimited easy to brake into? if so how?
(i might be planning on getting a used jeep wrangler as my first car and i need to know if it is easy to brake into because of its removable hard top. i am getting a hard top not a soft top.)
A: It’s not that they are easy to break into, they are easy to steal parts from. The hard top bolts into the sides of the body and clamps into the top of the windshield. It is only made of fiberglass and they are easy to crack.
Still…regardless of
the top you choose…most all jeep owners know not to leave anything valuable in their rig, top on or not as windows are always easy to break.
Jeeps can be rather spendy, they are not good on milage either. Jeepers tend to be loyal to the brand though….you can run them till the wheels fall off.
